The politics of a shirt...
I'm leaving the SPA building after my class and what do I see. Random clothesline of shirts with messages of victims of rape, incest, and other acts of abuse. My heart stop. My mind went blank. Each shirt had a message of the struggle of what each individual had to go through. It was as if the victim could use a t-shirt to vent out any frustration they had. This reminded me that fashion can still be political. These shirts don't represent a trend or label. They represent a movement. The movement being a safe way in which victims (the majority women) can educate and speak about violence.

MODEL TRY-OUTS
Fall model auditions for CSULB fashion student show, to be held on October 22.
Models chosen will be in the Spring 2008 Campus Couture show.
The Campus couture in association with ASU, and Students in Fashion (SIF), will conduct an open model audition to both students and non-students in the USU ballroom.
Check in is from 4:00 to 5:00, while the actual audition takes place from 5:00 to 8:00. Models are required to be 5’7” or taller, fit into a 10 dress size or smaller and bring 3” heels to walk in.
This is the first out of two auditions for the campus couture show held on May 7, 2008. The campus’ 18th annual fashion show is designed, produced and manage by CSULB students.
“We are encouraging CSULB students to tell a friend about the auditions” says Samantha Cornett. Cornett is this year’s head coordinator of the show.
“The show is an opportunity for CSULB designers to showcase their creations in a formal runway type show,” says Cornett. Senior Designers and the top ten juniors will participate in the show as well as the some “sophomores displayed on the side”.
The Campus Couture show takes about two semesters to organize and it’s cost vary from $25,000-$35,000. The money is fundraised through various activities done by students. “It’s a lot of work, I did not know how much is in it, I love it (coordinating fashion show) it’s a good thing” said Cornett about the grueling schedule in organizing the campus couture show.
Second model audition will be held in the spring semester.

That money maker...
Many of you don’t know that CSULB is in fact very involved in the “fashion” world. One example can be the up coming Spring Fashion Show, the show will be held May 7, 2008.
About two days ago I had the “fashion” privileged to interview the head coordinator for the show, Samantha Cornett. Cornettt is a senior majoring in Merchandise with a minor in textiles. While the fashion show may be glamorous, fundraising one can be a major pain. This year’s show (2008) will cost approximately $25,000-$35,000!
Here is Cornett’s ideas on how she and her team will make that money:
Fundraising, Fundraising, Fundraising!
a. Donations
b. Garage Sales
c. T.V. Taping
d. Candy Sales
Do you have any other ideas to make money for the show? Tell us how you would do it, legally people!

Fashion 101
Fashion 101-or something like that?
During this semester I will be giving out news and mini-briefs on what's "buzzing" around the Greater Los Angeles area and around campus.
"But how does the fashion world effect me here directly at CSULB?"
Valid question.
Here's the answer:
Your clothes may define who you might be, or at least play an important role in what people think of you. (think uniform for your stereotype) Not directly your label, per se, but to reflect or give an insight to your personality. That's why I wanted to dedicate my time to a blog on fashion and students that are intrested in the fashion world and that play theatre through there clothes. Some might say that the capital of the fashionista may be in the streets of Paris, London, or New York. I'm here to prove other wise, it's here on campus.
-Cavalli's, Lagerfeld's and Pada's of the world, you have been warned.
